The Best Playa del Carmen Family Activities

You don’t have to go far from Mahekal Beach Resort to find the best Playa del Carmen family attractions. As one of the family-friendliest resorts in the region, we offer plenty of activities for kids and teens of all ages.

Arts, Crafts, and Creativity 

Let your kids unleash their creativity with on-site pottery painting. To paint ceramics and ornaments, head to the Artisan Palapa between 10am-6pm where you can create your own keepsake to bring home. Pottery and painted ceramics are glazed and baked overnight and available for pickup the following morning. Painting tools and assistance is included, while payment is required for ceramic pieces.

Watersports

For a more adventurous family activity, make your way to Dive Center — our on-site dive and watersports center. Journey through the sea with dive lessons and snorkeling for beginners (age 8 or older) or go for a banana boat ride with the whole family for a thrilling outing on the ocean.

Games & Good Times

Gather at Agave Bar for a guaranteed good time. Featuring classic games including ping pong, tabletop shuffleboard, and billiards, Agave is a family-friendly bar with vibrant cocktails for adults and a colorful ambiance for kids. Just outside the bar is the Mahekal Beach Resort library, where kids and adults can enjoy some downtime with a book.

Swimming & Sun

There are plenty of fun things to do in Playa del Carmen, but splashing around is an undoubted favorite for kids. Our fine white sand is perfect for sandcastle building, while the refreshing turquoise water is a great escape from the sun. The whole family will also enjoy our four resort-style swimming pools, including the zero-entry Itzi pool.  Pools are open daily from 7am-7pm. Towels are available near each of the pools. There are no lifeguards on duty.
